2nd Pyithu Hluttaw 5th regular session 39th day meeting

After the peaceful assembly and peaceful procession law and rule were enacted there were a total of 3,074 officially permitted demonstrations said Deputy Minister for Home Affairs MajGen Aung Soe at 2nd Pyithu Hluttaw 5th regular session 39th day meeting.

Officially permitted demonstrations were held 131 times in 2012, 443 times in 2013, 848 times in 2014, 707 times in 2015, 573 times in 2016 and 372 times up to end June 2017 totaling 3,074 said the Deputy Minister. The Deputy Minister was responding to a question by U Pe Than of Myebon constituency on numbers of officially permitted demonstrations after the peaceful assembly and peaceful procession law was enacted and the action taken by relevant departments. If the requested demonstrations are relevant and appropriate, in accordance with the law, does not harm the natural environment and the socio-economic situation of the region and is acceptable by the people relevant Union Ministries, States and Regions Governments has been resorting accordingly explained the Deputy Minister. Peaceful Assembly and Peaceful Procession Law (Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Law No. 15/2011) was enacted on December 2, 2011. Currently, a bill amending the law is being drawn with remarks and comments of the Union Attorney General’s office it is learnt.
